More than 1 million visitors to benefit from multi-purpose indoor sports venue

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Dubai Sports Council (DSC) announce the 7th edition of Dubai Sports World (DSW), the region’s largest indoor summer sports arena, which returns with an invigorating 13-week calendar of activities and an exciting new line-up of more than 17 sports and 10 professional academies for sports and fitness enthusiasts. It will run from June 1 to September 2, 2017 at DWTC.

Since its inaugural edition in 2011, DSW has experienced tremendous year-on-year growth and is expected to cross the 1 million visitors milestone this year. The strategic partnership between DWTC and DSC has created a strong grassroots culture to nurture young talent within the community, co-provide world-class sports facilities and host headline sporting events that reiterate Dubai’s status as a leading sports tourism destination.

His Excellency Saeed Mohamed Hareb, General Secretary, Dubai Sports Council, said: “Each year, we are delighted with the exponential growth and success of Dubai Sports World at DWTC, as it attracts more visitors, who are encouraged to follow a healthy, fit and happy lifestyle. Dubai is a leading destination for international sport and is recognised as a city that champions health and well-being through various initiatives. Furthermore, DSW has emerged as a unique platform to nurture young talent and spring-board professional sporting careers to a national, regional and international level.”

Appearances and visits by more than 50 local and international sport heroes including football sensations Diego Maradona, Christian Karembu, Aldair, Michel Salgado and Frédéric Oumar Kanouté, women’s badminton champion Mona Al Sahlawi and UAE football icons Ahmed Khalil and Habib Al Fardan have inspired young players and participants at DSW. Through its comprehensive sport environment for the community, which includes a series of sporting tournaments, DSW has established itself as a much-anticipated venue and is supported by more than 20 partners and sponsors.

DSW 2017 assembles a staggering range of popular sports and adrenaline-charged activities for residents and visitors in its specially-designed air-conditioned venue spread across 25,000 sq metres. As DSW’s popularity grows and the court and pitch bookings are sold out each year, the venue has expanded its offerings to include 12 badminton courts by Shuttle Time Dubai, a 50% increase over 2016; 4 pro-standard pitches for 5-a-side football; 4 pro-standard pitches for 7-a-side football and rugby; 6 basketball courts; 3 tennis courts; a mini-cricket pitch; a regulation-sized volleyball court; a state-of-the-art gym; a dedicated fitness studio; a cycling studio; a running track and a free-to-enter Table Tennis Zone.

The popular Skate Park returns and will join new activities such as the “Just Play” Sports Camp for children, Ninja Warriors Course, a Trampoline Park and Padel with the Zayed Abbas Tennis Academy. DSW has also partnered with a number of professional academies, groups and initiatives including Shuttle Time Dubai, IFA Football Academy, Tennis360, Juventus Academy Dubai, KAFO Academy, Rage, and others, for serious practitioners and enthusiasts of badminton, football, tennis, table-tennis and skateboarding and BMX, and more.

Ahmed Alkhaja, Senior Vice President – Venues, DWTC said: “Dubai Sports World is a unique synergy between Dubai World Trade Centre’s legacy as a regional leader that has hosted and organised more than 500 world-class events and exhibitions annually for over 35 years and Dubai Sports Council’s expertise in spearheading the sports mandate for Dubai, from developing a culture of sports at the grassroots to staging and supporting high-profile international sporting events. Through this partnership, DSW is a fantastic venue for the entire community – irrespective of age or skill - to engage in and participate in sports and fitness, and is aligned with Dubai’s promotion of a healthy lifestyle amongst its residents. It maintains the momentum of an active lifestyle throughout the year and the growing interest from individuals, groups and corporates is testament to its success as a much-anticipated summer venue, spurring us to ensure we deliver a dynamic calendar of events and activities.”
