Smash Hit

672 Hours of Complimentary Court Time with Academy Sessions and Group Bookings for Companies, Clubs and Leagues

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Having proved a ‘smash hit’ with Dubai’s residents and visitors during last year’s Dubai Sports World (DSW), the UAE’s largest indoor summer sports venue is bringing back its popular free badminton offering this summer – courtesy of a strategic partnership with Shuttle Time Dubai, a grassroots Badminton World Federation (BWF) initiative led by Dubai Sports Council.

From June 21st to August 29th, Shuttle Time Dubai will provide six full-size badminton courts to roll-out an expansive grassroots programme designed to encourage people from all walks of life – regardless of age, ability or fitness level – to play badminton as a fun and social way of staying active.

In addition to complimentary court bookings from 4pm to midnight on weekdays and 8am to midnight on weekends, two of the six courts will also be reserved for companies, clubs and leagues from 4pm to midnight on weekdays.

Shuttle Time Dubai will also offer coaching clinics operated by five badminton academies from 8am to 4pm on weekdays. Open to all age groups, the clinics are being managed by Professional Sports Academy (PSA), Pro Academy, Deepika’s Academy and Play to Win.

“After our successful debut last year, our objective was to encourage more people to enjoy badminton and to provide the opportunity for them to participate free of charge. Dubai Sports World offers an avenue for us to bring the game to as wide an audience as possible,” said Jaffer Ebrahim, Project Co-ordinator, Shuttle Time Dubai.

Facilitated by Falcon and Associates, Shuttle Time Dubai is part of a multi-platform partnership between Dubai and the BWF, which includes the Emirate’s second annual hosting of the Dubai World Superseries Finals from December 9-13th 2015.

“Shuttle Time Dubai’s participation in Dubai Sports World complements our current community and school programmes and will give all badminton enthusiasts the chance to participate in a free programme where they can improve their skills. It also offers a great opportunity for new players to come and try badminton,” added Jaffer. “We will also be giving participants the chance to win tickets to see the world’s leading players contest the star-studded highlight of the professional calendar – the Dubai World Superseries Finals in December.”

In addition to six badminton courts, this year’s fifth DSW features four pro-standard pitches for five-a-side football, four pro-standard pitches for seven-a-side football and rugby, four basketball courts, two tennis courts, a mini cricket pitch nets, an Olympic-length 400-metre running track and a regulation-sized volleyball court. An expansive skate-boarding and BMX park designed by extreme sports and recreation retailers, RAGE, will boast ramps, rails, pipes and verts, while a state-of-the-art gym by TechnoGym will feature world-class weights and fitness equipment. For the first-time, the gym area will include a dedicated fitness studio for group classes and a cycling studio operated by Fitness First.

DSW 2015 also houses its first-ever dedicated Parkour obstacle course by Against GraviTi and the Wire World Adventure Park featuring a Mobile Rope Course and Bungee Trampoline. Elsewhere, a free-to-enter Entertainment Zone will feature 12 table tennis tables and a virtual Gaming Zone, while a special ‘activation area’ has been earmarked for one-off events and consumer-facing sponsor activations.

“Badminton has been a key element of Dubai Sports World ever since our first outing in 2011,” said Ahmed Alkhaja, Senior Vice President - Venues, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the DSW organiser. “The involvement of Shuttle Time Dubai significantly enhanced the popularity of our badminton facilities last year and we expect even more interest this summer. The initiative represents a fantastic value-added proposition for our diverse community of sports fans, who I would urge to book in advance of arriving at the venue to secure their time on the badminton courts.”

Organised in association with Dubai Sports Council, DSW 2015 boasts an impressive roll-call of leading local authorities and international lifestyle partners. For more information on DSW or to book a badminton court, visit:
